Welcome to the blog for Thousand Word Photography!

The goal of this site is to help others develop their skill and knowledge of photography.  You will find posts discussing the creative side, the technical side, and the informational side of photography.  Try the links found to the right of this page to check out other sites devoted to photographers of all skill levels.  If you have a question and can’t seem to find an answer, send it to me via email (address shown on Contact Info page) and I will post it for you so the community of commenters can help you out.

I encourage commenting, even if your opinion differs from mine.  We can all learn from each other.

Classes, classes, classes

Be sure and check out the class offerings for Lawrence Photo and OTC (Ozarks Technical Community College) by clicking the links shown at the right side of this page.  I am teaching both Photography and Microsoft Word classes for OTC  this semester.

For Lawrence Photo I have listed all the classes I teach plus the schedules for the classes by John Wall on Studio Lighting and Basic Photoshop.

New Info Everywhere

I have added some information in a couple of places on the blog today.

Check out the class schedule page for Lawrence Photo and Video.  I have added the schedules for the Basic Photoshop Class and the Studio Lighting Class, both taught by local Professional Photographer John Wall.  For additional information on what is covered in the classes, please contact Lawrence Photo and Video.

Under the Websites of Interest I have added two new sites full of video tutorials for photographers of all levels.  The two new sites added are Learn My Shot.com and Fro Knows Photo.com.  These are a couple of great sites.

Upcoming Training Opportunities

Lawrence Photo and Video is now offering a class on Studio Lighting taught by Professional Photographer John Wall. The next date for this class is May 28th. Also upcoming for classes at Lawrence Photo are Basic Photoshop on May 7th and June 25th, Exposure on May 21st, and Composition on June 18th. Classes are $40 per class, but your ticket becomes a $15 off coupon for use on in store purchases.

Photo Contest Announcement

The first annual Nature in the Park photo contest is being sponsored by Friends of the Garden, Southwest Missouri Camera Club, and Greene Magazine with prizes offered by Lawrence Photo, Black River Imaging, Southwest Missouri Camera Club, and Friends of the Garden. Updates and FYI’s

Hope everyone is doing well after the bought of nasty weather that went through the Ozarks.  I haven’t been on here in awhile so I thought it would be a good time for some updates and FYI’s.

Classes
Don’t forget the Exposure class this Saturday at Lawrence Photo.  Class starts at 9:30 am and will be over about 11:30am.

Podcasts
In the next week or so I will be adding some more photography related podcasts on here.   There will be some how-to podcasts and podcasts geared specifically towards beginners.

Other Services
Don’t forget the other services I offer through Thousand Word Photography.

The Gallery at Art Market
I am now working part-time at a fine art gallery on Commercial Street in Springfield named The Gallery at Art Market.  We are located at 330 East Commercial Street across from the farmer’s market pavilion and the Commercial Street foot bridge. We have pieces of all sizes and price ranges, both framed and unframed.

We currently have work from local renown photographer, Josh Mitchell, on display.  You really need to come check out Josh’s work!  It is quite spectacular!!

The main reason I would love for everyone to come visit is because of our selection of original oil paintings we are selling to benefit the Springfield Victory Mission. Get art for your home or office and help support a worthy cause at the same time.

We are currently open 10am-5pm, Mon-Fri, but will be expanding the hours when it warms up.

I would love for everyone to come in and say Hi.
